Which MLM expenses should you count?

A payout is not the same as profit

Company payouts are only one part of the result. Customer sales, commissions and bonuses must be compared with expenses and changes in inventory. Purchasing unsold stock reduces cash, but the entire purchase is not the cost of goods sold.

Review each category

Record the amount and period for every cost: one-off or recurring. Keep the date and description with it. Do not enter a cost twice if it is already included in inventory purchase prices.

What not to call earnings

Unsold inventory, borrowed money and promised but unpaid bonuses are not actual earnings. Expected payouts can be included in a scenario labelled Plan.

Starter kit / enrolment

An enrolment payment that is not inventory. Record the product portion of a starter kit as a purchase to avoid deducting it twice.
